Nitrite is highly toxic to fish and should not be detectable in aquariums or garden ponds. It accumulates during the activation phase but decreases again once the nitrogen cycle has stabilized. Only then should fish or invertebrates be introduced. In a well-established aquarium, high nitrite levels can be caused by decomposition processes, overfeeding, or new fish.
The Nitrite Test quickly and reliably measures the nitrite level in the water and thus provides early warning of dangerous nitrite peaks – particularly important for new aquarium setups.
